Crip Camp is a documentary film which revolves around the importance of community. Yes, if you were to look up Crip Camp on the internet (which I did before watching it to get a sense of what it was all going to be about) it will tell you from the get go about how it is about a disabilities or politics. While watching it, it was obvious to me that it was about these things but in a larger sense it was about the power and importance of community. The community at this summer camp empowered people and gave them a sense of self that they did not have before that then inspired actions which encapsulated politics. Although it is rooted in the community and from the perspective of film, I am happy that the filmmaker focused so much on that in their approach.
