Response to Icarus

Before watching Icarus, I felt like the documentary was going to be rather clean cut and seamless in that it was going to be about doping in sports and that’s it. This was not the case and I think this was a big great tactic of the producer and documentarist. The documentary, while yes about doping in sports, took the viewer along for a ride literally across the globe to see the in’s and out’s, some good things and some bad things, and the inner workings of other cultures. The film continued to open up doors that I didn’t even know were there; from simply working within an anti-doping lab to possibly uncovering a much larger plotline. The producers behind the documentary could have very well just sat back and stuck with the plot line of doping in sports but they evolved the plot to encapsulate a much larger focus and I think this, in particular is what made or broke this documentary.
