Response to The Great Hack

I remember once my family and I were dog sitting for our friends. Whenever we would do something of the like, my Mom would always deep clean the person’s house for them because she is a self-proclaimed “neat freak”. Our friends of whom we were dog sitting for had a carpet cleaner that “worked like a dream” according to my mom. Without even mentioning the name of the carpet cleaner, taking any pictures, or making any google searches for the carpet cleaner; we found advertisements for the very carpet cleaner that we were using just a few days before!

This is something that this documentary was talking about during it’s analysis of a valuable and powerful resource of data analytics. I think just like many documentaries and pieces that are out for public viewing today, this one also holds a bias that comes across in it’s presentation. I think removing this bias would have great implications and advance the purpose and argument of the documentary. Nonetheless, this documentary made me think back to that incident that occurred many years ago when we were cleaning our friend’s carpets.
